South Boulevard Beach in Evanston got a nearly 2-hour treatment from 9 committed volunteers on Saturday, May 2. I led an Alliance for the Great Lakes (greatlakesadopt.org) beach cleanup event.
We had hot coffee courtesy of the Dempster Street Starbucks and manager John. We also had some donuts to get us fired up. Then we spent nearly two hours picking up trash and discarded items. We documented what we collected from the beach and reported back to the Alliance. They take all the data from hundreds of Adopt-a-Beach™ events from all over the Great Lakes and compile a profile of what's washing up where. It's valuable information in the fight against pollution and contamination of the lakes.
Thanks to those that came out to help and to all those volunteers around the Great Lakes cleaning up beaches this spring.
