The annual Great Lakes Days are happening this week at the U.S. Capitol. What does this mean for us?
It means that good people are looking out for the health of Lake Michigan and all our Great Lakes.
These advocates will be in Washington March 1-3 to meet with members of Congress about the safety of our drinking water, the dangers of invasive species and other issues. And they’re likely to get a warm reception.
With eight U.S. states bordering them, the Great Lakes have enjoyed bipartisan support for many years. When the Trump administration tried to slash funding for the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative, Congress responded by not only restoring the funding but increasing it.
Yet it is still important that our federal legislators hear concerns from their constituents. If you are so inclined, please contact your members of Congress and let them know that funding for the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative is important to you.
If you don't know who to contact or how, look here.
Thanks for reading, and go Great Lakes!
