A victory for the Great Lakes!

"One Quarter"

Yesterday was a good day for aquatic life (and humans!) in and around the Great Lakes and waterways across the country.

As of July 1, 2018, the sale of any product containing microbeads is prohibited in the United States. Microbeads are the tiny plastic particles used in cosmetics, toothpaste and other everyday products.

This is a major victory and promises a healthier environment for fish, birds and other species. It also means safer drinking water for us.

The microbead ban shows that the hard work of a thoughtful and dedicated group of people can put an end to a harmful practice. Everyone who helped make this happen should take a bow (and as long as you're down there, pick up some plastic trash!).

Thanks for reading, and have a safe and plastic-free Fourth!
